A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Interment will follow at Matteson Cemetery in Matteson Twp. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Grace was born March 27, 1910 in Madison, Ind. to Kearney and Edith (Vestal) Brinson. She married George VandePolder on Sept. 6, 1946 in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1999.
Mrs. VandePolder graduated from Coldwater High School in 1928 and worked for attorneys Cowell & Frankhauser in Coldwater for 13 years. She had also worked at Midwest Foundry and the Homer Furnace Company. Grace and her husband began So. Michigan Heating and Cooling in Coldwater, now known as SoMiCo., in 1948 and operated the business until their retirement in 1972. After retiring, they spent the winter months in Boca Raton, Fla. until 1999. Grace was very skilled in the art of crochet and loved the game of solitaire, being very proud of the number of games she had actually played. She also enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
Grace is survived by her step-son Richard, his wife Mille VanDePolder of Cedarville and their five children, her nephews James (Connie) Wood and Craig (Marnie) Wood, all of Coldwater and Bruce (Barbara) Wood of Winter Springs, Fla.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Ethel Wood.
