MOS:94B20 Food Service Specialist.
Jess arrived in Vietnam 6 October 1968 and
was assigned to B Battery,1st Battalion,21st
Artillery,1st Calvary Division,USARV.
While at a aircraft landing zone the base had
incoming mortar fire and Jess died as a result
of fragmentation wounds to the body from
hostile mortar fire in Phuoc Long Province.
Sgt Van Winkle served his country for 2 years.
