Clara Belle VanWinkle Bettis, 83, of Batesville, died Monday, October 25, 2010.
She was born in Poughkeepsie, Arkansas on Friday, September 16, 1927 the daughter of William Sherman VanWinkle and Ollie Victoria (Byrd) VanWinkle.
She was a hairdresser, homemaker and a member of the Harrison Street Church of Christ for 23 years. Clara read two newspapers daily from cover to cover. She enjoyed helping people anyway she could. Clara attended the Tuesday morning Bible study class for women. She was a loving, rock solid, beautiful and sweet person who was warm, open and patient. Clara was a God-loving woman and a wonderful mother to her children. She never judged anyone and was a kind-hearted caregiver. She was also a wonderful cook and "southern cooking" was her specialty, especially cornbread.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Linda Bettis of Austin, Texas; daughter and son-in-law: Vickie and Michael Perrie of Beaverton, Oregon; grandchildren: Scott Burleigh of Portland, Oregon and Jaclyn Burleigh of Oakland, California; one brother: Dwight VanWinkle of Bay, Arkansas; one sister: Georgia Harris of Searcy, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Bettis; and eleven brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 29 at Roller-Crouch Chapel with Michael Perrie officiating and bible reading by Tom German. A private burial will be later in the day.
Cremation services are by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
