ORA BYRD, of Memphis, the second child born to the late Dewitt Vanarsdale and his wife, Rachel Vanarsdale of Camden, MS on February 12, 1921, passed away April 7, 2008. Also later in the birth order were one brother and two sisters; two sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Byrd married George W. Byrd, Sr. and they enjoyed their family union and children until his death in 1975. She worked as a restaurant owner for many years in the South Memphis area, and was famous for her succulent ribs and many other mouth watering specials. Mrs. Byrd leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Dewitt Davis (Marzella), Jesse Davis (Bertha), and Cleveland Davis (Maryann); four daughters, Lenora Clayton, Minnie Yancey (James), Maxcine Johnson, and Patricia A. Threlkeld; 23 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4-6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at N. J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 12 South Parkway West. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11 at Nuevoempezar (New Beginning) Church, 3443 Tutwiler Ave. Burial will be in National Cemetery. N.J.
