Dorothy Lucille Bennett went to be with Jesus after a brief illness Thursday July 17, 2003 at the Integrated Health Services of Moore.

She was a jewel and devoted her lifetime to loving and caring for both family and church members. She was the wife of the late Reverend James Bennett. She was born April 18, 1915, to Charles Ransom VanWinkle and Liza Jane Petty at Corbett, Oklahoma. She lived in Oklahoma City since 1947, coming from Lexington. She was raised and attended school in the Lexington/Corbett area. On September 10, 1938, Dorothy and James Calvin Bennett were united in marriage at Lexington, Oklahoma. Dorothy was a homemaker, Pastor's wife, and grandma to all. She loved raising kids, flowers, doll collecting, sewing, and caring for others. She was a member of the Sunshine Tabernacle in Oklahoma City.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reverend James Bennett; two brothers, three sisters; two sons-in-law; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

Survivors include sons: Dewey Bennett and wife, Linda, of Midwest City; and Reverend Louis Bennett and wife, Glenda, of Moore; daughters: Reverend Floretta Reed of Oklahoma City; Virginia VanCuren of Stroud; Kaye Hulsey and husband, Jimmy, of McLoud; Bill Acree of Oklahoma City; Linda Garrett and husband, Joe, of Oklahoma City; and Patty Jackson and husband, Jerry, of Midwest City; sister Zelma Jean Sims of Shawnee; two special sisters-in-law, Martha Ramsey and Naomi Mitchell, both of Lexington; one special niece, Ann Dean Rose of Jacksonville, Florida; 27 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services: 2:00 p.m. Monday July 21, 2003, Lakeside Church of God, Norman, Oklahoma. Officiating: Reverend J.H. Ford, Reverend Paul Jackson, Reverend Kenneth Adams. Interment Lexington Cemetery.
