Diana Van Sickle, 65, of Cedar Falls, died on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, from complications from a stroke at Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cedar Falls, following a decade-long battle with aphasia.

Diana Mae Smith was born Sept. 20, 1947, the daughter of Doris (Wheeler) and Howard Smith Sr. in Waterloo. She was a 1965 graduate of West High School in Waterloo and briefly attended Gates Business College, Waterloo, now Hawkeye Community College. Diana enjoyed attending her sons' band, orchestra and choral concerts, sporting events, and marching band performances. She also was a member of the Prairie Rose Chapter of the Embroiders Guild of America and the local Keepsake Quilters chapter as well as St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, where she occasionally taught Sunday school in kindergarten, first and second grades.

Diana is survived by her husband, Robert, of Cedar Falls; mother, Doris Smith, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Eric and Scot Van Sickle, both of Cedar Falls; a brother, Howard Smith Jr. of Henderson, Nev.; and four nieces and one nephew.
