MRS. FLORENCE GILES INSTANTLY KILLED

Relatives here received a message last Friday conveying the sad intelligence that Mrs. Florence Giles, formerly of this city, had been killed by a train at Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she and her husband had been spending several months for the benefit of her health.

The remains were brought to Chariton last night, accompanied by her husband, and this afternoon at two o'clock, funeral services will be held at the First M. E. church, conducted by Rev. W. G. Hohanshelt, after which interment will take place in the Chariton cemetery.

Florence Van Sickle was born in Chariton, Iowa, on January 8, 1856. She was married here in 1878 to Charles De Herman, who died several years ago. To them two sons were born, Ernest, who died eight years ago, and Van, who is now living in Creston.

In 1902, deceased was again married in Burlington, Iowa, to George Giles, who survives her. A sister, Mrs. Kate Gleason, of Des Moines, is also living.

In early life she was converted and united with the M. E. church, of which she remained a consistent member until death. She grew up in this city and resided here many years after her marriage. During her long residence here she won a large circle of friends who admired her for her many splendid qualities. She was kind to her family and ever thoughtful of others.

Her demise will be mourned by all who knew her and the bereaved relatives will have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
