David J. Van Nort, 70, of Rural Retreat, formerly of Columbia, PA, died peacefully Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral service was held Friday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home Inc. in Columbia, PA. Interment was in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens at Columbia, PA. He was born in Ilion, NY, son of the late Clarence & Rachel Van Nort. He was the husband of 26 years of Kathy M. Feltch Van Nort. He was retired from Colonial Metals in Columbus, PA, where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a lifetime member of the Farm Bureau of Virginia and the Rough and Tumble, and a member of American Legion Post 372, Columbia, PA. He was preceded in death by two brothers; a sister; and a granddaughter, Christina. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children and three stepchildren, David, husband of Michelle Van Nort of Florida, William Van Nort of New York, Marjorie, wife of Mark Zediker of New York, Kathleen, wife of Timothy Ulisse of Virginia, Sally, wife of Robert Preston of New York, Brenda Jones of New York, Michelle Drowatzky of Pennsylvania, Kevin Feltch of Pennsylvania and Shawn Feltch of Pennsylvania; a brother, Dewey D. Van Nort; 22 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Lancaster County Unit, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603. Clyde W.
