Mary Edith Sinclair passed away July 14, 2009 in Oklahoma City. She was born July 24, 1918 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Claud and Ruth Stewart Van Nort. The family soon returned to Oklahoma City, where Mary attended Gatewood Elementary and graduated from Central High School. In 1936 she married Max Loving, who preceded her in death in 1952. She later married Ed Sinclair. She was a 16-year cancer survivor. Mary was a full-time wife and mother until her children began entering college at OSU. At that time she went to work at Home Mortgage & Investment Company and later Oklahoma Mortgage Company, where she retired from the position of Vice-President of the cashiering department. As a child of the Depression who learned to squeeze a nickel's worth of value out of a penny, she could not tolerate being even a penny off in her personal checkbook, much less in her work responsibilities. Mary was always up for a good game of bridge or poker and loved to dance. She was a Life Member of the Solo Club, serving on the membership committee and later as its President. She opened her home every Wednesday night for years for a bridge group and for many other Solo functions. She and her friend, Aline Russell, looked forward to Solo dances every Saturday night at the VFW Hall, where they frequently managed the desk. They also were longtime season ticket holders for OU football games and loved to tailgate before games. In Mary's later years, she enjoyed traveling around the United States and to many foreign countries, often with her children. She discovered the joy of cruising and was able to visit five of the seven continents, only missing Asia and Antarctica. Mary is survived by her daughter, Becky Skaggs and husband Ron of Hot Springs Village, AR; daughter, Sally Tietje and husband Eldon of Temple, TX; son, Dan Loving and wife Susan of Oklahoma City; and daughter, Patty Sinclair of Bedford, TX. She is also survived by grandchildren: Darin & Greg Skaggs, Alicia Skaggs Morin, Gretchen Tietje, Andrew and Kendall Loving, and Lindsay Watson. Mary is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Jaycie, Anissa and Mattson Morin; Rebekah, Samantha, Sarah and Jackson Skaggs; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Nana Kill. The family would like to thank Valentine Umeh and the staff of the Reminiscence wing at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Oklahoma City Chapter of the at 3555 N.W. 58th, Suite 220, Oklahoma City 73112, or to The at 6525 N. Meridian, Oklahoma City, 73116. Following a private interment at Memorial Park Cemetery, there will be a memorial service at 11:00 am at Smith & Kernke funeral home, Saturday, July 18, 2009, 14624 N. May Ave. If there's a dance in Heaven tonight, Mary will be the first one on the floor.
