Mrs. Mary Etta Esch, 72, esteemed resident, passed peacefully away yesterday morning, January 27, 1937, at 9:10 o'clock at her home on sixth Ave., S.W., following a second stroke of paralysis with which she was attacked at 6 o'clock that morning. A week ago Monday she had had her first stroke, which affected her right hand and forearm. She had been ailing since November 19 last, but had been up and about until her final illness. Funeral services will be held in the Swan & Leytze funeral home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. F.H. Weed officiating, with burial in Mt. Hope.
Mary Etta Van Laningham was born in Noblesville, Indiana, November 19, 1864, a daughter of George B. and Elizabeth Harrison Van Laningham. she spent her earlier life in Noblesville, and later resided in Illinois, at LaSalle and Lostant. For the last twenty-five years she had been a resident of Independence and vicinity. She was married to H.T. Esch December 18, 1884. Surviving children are Mrs. John Stohr, Winthrop, Mrs. Han Beck, Stout, Roy, Independence. There are nine grandchildren, two brothers, Herbert, city, and Albert, Lostant, Illinois, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Hammer, St. Louis, Missouri and Mrs. Clarence Graves, Utica, Illinois.
Mrs. Esch won a wide acquaintance and friendship. She was a quiet, unassuming woman, friendly, a hard worker, always busy, a home body, a woman who attended different churches, believe in christian principles, and in her death the bereaved family have the sympathy of the many friends.
