Violet Pech was born April 1, 1907 at Oaklandon, Indiana. The daughter of Otto and Sophia Brooks Van Laningham. The family moved from Indiana to Illinois and finally to Iowa, where Violet finished her schooling at Winthrop High School.
Violet was united in marriage to William Pech on February 6, 1932 at Galena, Illinois. To this union were born three children: Beverly, Billy, and Robert. They purchased their farm southwest of Lamont in 1942 and lived there for many years, working and raising their family. William died on September 7, 1972. In 1991, Violet moved into the Lamont Senior Housing apartments. In 1999, she moved to People's Nursing Care Center in Independence.
Violet was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont and Ruth Circle; a charter member of the 4T club, a past 4-H leader and Farm Bureau member. She loved her family and especially going fishing.
Violet died on Monday, May 29, 2000 at People's Nursing Care Center in Independence following a lengthy illness. She was 93 years of age.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; three brothers: Ralph, Otto, and Therman Van Laningham; and on son-in-law, Robert Parker.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Parker of Lamont; two sons: Billy and his wife Janet of Winthrop; Robert and his wife Judi of Newport Beach, California; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one sister, Stella, and her husband, Lloyd Sellers of Rock Island, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Veva Van Laningham of Independence; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2000 in Grace United Methodist Church at Lamont with Rev. Doug Williams officiating. Music will be provided by organist Gabrielle Stewart and vocalist Karen Brown. Casketbearers will be grandson: Mark Parker, Rob Parker, Marv Lancaster, Rick Pech, Mike Pech, Ray Dengler, and Dave Perkins.
Burial will be in Madison Cemetery south of Aurora.
