Mildred J. "Midge" Nielsen, 79, of Denver, died at home Friday, March 8.
She was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Waterloo, daughter of Frank Martin and Mildred Farmer Van Erem. She married LeRoy W. Nielsen on Jan. 10, 1953, in Waterloo.
Mrs. Nielsen graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1952 and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Open Bible Church, Waterloo, where she was a past president of the Woman's World Fellowship group.
Survived by: her husband; four daughters, Debra Steele of Eldon, Becky (Lynn) Pierce of Cedar Falls and Jody (Tim) Reiter and Mary Lynn (Mark) Olson, both of Denver; three sons, Dennis of Arizona, Ronald (Charlotte) of Waterloo and Barry (LaNae) of Denver; 11 grandchildren, Mindy (Tim) Gilroy, Bryan (Nichole) Reiter, Shauna Beal, Kathryn (August) McIntosh, Lindsey Reiter, Jaclyn (Sam) Feldt, Spencer Teisinger and Jasmine, Jordan, Stephanie and JaNessa Nielsen; four great-grandchildren, Alyvia and Kanen McIntosh, Lily Feldt and Baby Gilroy; and a brother, Arthur (Gertrude "Teddy") Van Erem of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: three sisters, Georgianna Salmon, Marian Collins and Verna Simmons.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at the Open Bible Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Garden View Chapel, and an hour before services Saturday at the church.
Mildred enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading. She was fond of working with her hands sewing, knitting, cooking and making ceramics.
