Josephine "Canaca" Maria Pacheco Valverde, on Thursday, August 2, 2007, at Mimbres Memorial Hospital, she joined her loving husband Tom Valverde in eternal life. She was 90.
Visitation will start Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church with the funeral mass to follow at noon with Fr. Richard Catanach officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Canaca, as she was fondly known, was born May 30, 1917 in Deming to Josephina Carbajal and Florentino Pacheco. She was married 59 years to Thomas Rivera Valverde who preceded her in death on January 12, 1995. Canaca was a homemaker and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. She will be remembered fondly for her dedication to family, her wonderful sense of humor and her love of good music.
Survivors include four sons, Tommy Valverde Jr., Richard Valverde and wife Aurora, all of Las Cruces; Albert Valverde and wife Lola of Deming; Danny Valverde and wife Linda of Roswell; daughter Sylvia Holguin-Caballero and husband Art of Deming; two brothers, Florentino Pacheco of Deming and Sammy Pacheco of Tucson, Ariz; two sisters, Mary Salaiz of Deming and Minnie Duran of Keizer, OR; a sister-in-law, Josephine Gutierrez Pacheco, wife of deceased Eddie Pacheco of Mesilla and daughter, Celia Carrillo; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Valverde; three brothers, Eddie, Albert and Manuel Pacheco and three sisters, Elvira Parra, Nettie Yzaguirre and Helen Baca.
Pallbearers will be Gilbert Salaiz, Mike Valverde, Eddie, Ray, Chris and Javier Holguin.
Entrusted top the care of Baca's Funeral Chapel of Deming.
