Obituary for Catherine Valentine Cary from the San Antonio Light of March 9, 1918:

"MRS. KATE CARY DIES. Came to San Antonio to Live With Her Granddaughter, Mrs. Holmgreen. Mrs. Kate Cary of Geneva, Illinois, who came to San Antonio two weeks ago to make her home with her granddaughter, Mrs. George C. Holmgreen, 1226 West Russel Place, died at 2 o'clock Saturday morning in a hospital. Two of her grandsons, Leo A. and Ben H. Cary, also live in this city. Another grandson, Frank Cary, is a resident of Rockford, Illinois. Mrs. Cary's death was ascribed to a stroke of apoplexy. She became ill on her journey from the north and was compelled to leave the train at Denison, Texas, where she remained for five days, before continuing to San Antonio. She had been in the hospital since her arrival. Besides her grandchildren, she is survived by four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held from the chapel of the Shelley-Loring Undertaking Company, Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. Hugh McLellan of the Central Christian Church officiating. The pallbearers will be J. H. Holmgreen, Richard Brandt, Max Schmueckle, W. Volbrecht, E. A. Holmgreen and John Lawson. Interment will be made in the Mission Burial Park."
