Baltazar "Wally" was survived by his two sisters: Maggie Gallegos from Gallup, New Mexico and Mary Grijalva from Barstow, California; his very good friend Robert Vigil; and many nieces and nephews.

On 8 Dec 1941, Wally was serving with the 200th Coast Artillery Corps in the Philippines when Imperial Japanese began their invasion.
