HEART ATTACK IS FATAL TO LOCAL ATHLETE
Clarence Vetter Dies While Returning From Sheboygan In Friend's Car
Clarence "Pop" Vetter, 37, of 1137 South 25th street, active for
years in softball, basketball and bowling circles in Manitowoc, died
suddenly of a heart attack early today while returning from a trip
to Sheboygan with three companions.
Vetter was a passenger in a car driven by Samuel Dwoskin, according
to Dr. Theodore Teitgen, county coroner. When a few miles south of
Manitowoc Vetter complained of being short of breath. The driver
speeded up the car in an effort to reach the Holy Family hospital
to secure medical attention. Vetter was pronounced dead on entrance
to the hospital.
No Inquest
No inquest will be held, the coroner announced. He said Vetter's
companions reported the dead man had appeared in good health in the
hours preceding his death that they were with him.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Pfeffer
funeral home, the Rev. Paul Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in
Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Vetter, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Vetter, was born in the
county and has spent most of his life in the city. For the past 12
years he has been a foreman at the White House Milk Company. He
played basketball in city amateur leagues, principally on teams of
the Milk Company.
He was also one of the leading softball pitchers here. The past two
seasons he has pitched for Jimmie's Bar team of the Major softball
league. An active bowler for years Mr. Vetter was a member of the
Capitol Theater team of the Classic league.
He was a member of the Manitowoc aerie of Eagles.
Survivors are his wife, Mary; son (private); mother, Mrs. Herman
Vetter, and two brothers, Elmer and Wilbert, all of this city; and
a sister, Mrs. William Knuth of Denmark, Wis.
