MURIEL MAY VANDEGRIFT

Mrs. John Vandegrift, 71, of 2622 North Ave., Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of
Manitowoc, died Monday in Medicenter in Phoenix. A memorial service will be
held in Congregational Church in Phoenix.
Mrs. Vandegrift, nee Muriel Hogan, was born July 5, 1907, daughter of the late
Rev. and Mrs. Hogan. She was affiliated with the Order of Eastern Star No. 196
of Manitowoc. She was married to John Vandegrift in 1940 in Milwaukee, residing
in Manitowoc until her husband's death in 1950. After moving to Phoenix she
taught school in Avondale, Ariz., for 15 years until her retirement in 1965. In
1970 she was named "Woman of the Year" for the Federation of Women's Club in
Arizona.
Survivors include a brother, A.H. Hogan of Atlanta, Ga., and two sisters, Mrs.
Harold Freeman of Racine and Mrs. John Troth of Mora, Minn.
Local arrangements are being handled by Jens Funeral Home.
