Cyrena Tygart was born in Hancock county, Indiana, Nov. 9, 1843. She moved to Iowa with her parents when she was 9 years old and grew up to womanhood in the neighborhood of Bethel Christian church. She united with this church at Bethel at the age of 18 and for forty
years has been a consistent member. On the 20th day of May, 1862, she was married to Nimrod Utterback. Six children were born of this union, five boys and one girl, all of whom survive to mourn her loss.

Her companion preceded her into the unseen world about 18 months ago. Only a little while she lingered here, and then followed him at the age of 58 years.

In her decease, the community has lost a good citizen, the church a true and worthy member and the children a devoted and patient mother.
The funeral sermon was preached in the Lancaster Christian church to a large audience of her relatives and friends, by her pastor D. W. Campbell. Her body was laid to rest by the side of her late husband in the Pennington cemetery, there to await the final resurrection.
