Loda was born on her parents farm near Denlow, MO.
Her father is Henry Allen Upshaw and mother is Clara Belle (Milsap)Upshaw.
Loda was one of ten children:Vie,Morton,Rex,Norman,Lola,Loda,Bertie,Vivian,Pet,Elaine.
Lola met Enoch Leonard Black "Blackie" at a skating rink while on a visit in Skiatook with sister Pet. They were married six weeks later in Sapulpa,OK on Nov 11 1922.
They lived in a tent for nine months in the Osage oil fields where Blackie worked as a tool dresser, they were young and enjoyed it. Each tent had running water and groceries delivered every day from town.
Their first child was Eugene "Gene" Leonard Black, born in Skiatook but the new family soon moved to Del Norte, CO.
They had five more children: Loa Louise,Sidney Leroy,Betty Lorraine,Eleanor Eileen,Margaret Darlene Black.
Gene and Loa Louise are buried in Del Norte, CO., Cemetery.
Tragedy to the two oldest children, Gene was only 10 yrs old in 1934 when he died from measles complicated by pneumonia. Ten months later at age 8 yrs old, Loa Louise died in a car accident.
The family moved to San Diego,CA., then returned to Skiatook,OK., in 1939 where Blackie opened up "Blackies" Barber Shop. Nov 11 1972 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Blackie died in 1973 and Lola died in 1991.
This information on their bio and photo was submitted Eleanor(Black)Rountree, Darlene(Black)Thomason, Sidney L.Black and Betty(Black)Herring for the making of the Red Book called Skiatook, Oklahoma Gateway to Osage Nation 1872-1999 that's at the Skiatook Museum for purchase for $50.00 or reference only use (since they weren't being returned) at the Skiatook Public Library.
