Alice Reimann Sharp passed away Thursday, August 26, 2010, in Panama City, FL, after a brief illness. Alice was born July 28, 1911, on a farm in Melvin, IL, to the late John and Catherine Underwood, the tenth of eleven children. After graduating from Melvin High School, Alice attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL on scholarship, where she was a member of the Phi Omega Pi Sorority before moving to Chicago to work at the 1933 World's Fair and later as a bookkeeper. In Chicago, she met her first husband, the late Clarence August "Dutch" Reimann, and they were married October 30, 1938, in Melvin, IL. Alice and Dutch moved several times over the next fifteen years, living in Indiana, Illinois and finally living in Miami, FL, for health reasons of their children. They loved traveling, taking cruises, going to dinner theater, as well as dancing and entertaining friends and family.
Alice was a loving mother to their three children, Larry William Reimann (deceased), Kent John Clarence Reimann and Carol Ann Reimann Larson (deceased). Alice wasn't just a homemaker, working at various jobs, including managing a florist shop and demonstrating sewing machines. Alice and Dutch had thirty years of wedded bliss until Dutch's death in 1968. In 1975, Alice married widower Berry Sharp in Miami, FL, and shortly afterward moved to Inverness, FL, where she was able to enjoy some of her other favorite pastimes - gardening, canning, making homemade breads, reading, playing the piano and always helping her neighbors anytime she could. In 2003, due to Berry's failing health, they moved to Marietta, GA, to be nearer to his family. After Berry's death in 2005, Alice moved to Fountain, FL, to live with her oldest son, Larry Reimann. Even in her nineties, she still loved traveling, especially going back to Melvin, IL, for family reunions.
Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, Raleigh John Underwood, Henry William Underwood, Elmer Glen Underwood, Clarence Walley Underwood, Arthur Alvin Lottie Asherman, Etta Eva Underwood and Mabel Cameron.
Alice is survived by her son, Kent Reimann of O'Brien, FL; daughters-in-law Christina Reimann of Fountain, FL, and Judy Gish of Tallahassee; stepsons Brian Sharp and wife Nancy of Folsom, California, Peter Sharp and wife Dee of Marietta, GA, and Ted Sharp and partner Josie of Homestead, FL. Alice was also G'Ma to eleven grandchildren and great-grandma to fourteen great-grandchildren, as well as Aunt Alice to numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, August 29, at Southerland Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Alice will be laid to rest beside Dutch in Miami Memorial Park.
