Michael Lee Underwood, 21, son of Dr. George and Rosemary Underwood, died Saturday afternoon (May 6, 1978) near Logansport, when his parachute failed to open as he was skydiving. Born at Phoenix, AZ, he came to Lafayette as an infant. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and attended Ball State University. He was to have entered Purdue University in the fall.

Mr. Underwood was a brick mason, employed by Jim Featherstone the past two years. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and Purdue Skydivers Club.

Surviving are his parents; a brother, Gregory "Rick" Underwood of Lafayette; a sister, Beth Ann Underwood, a student at Ball State University; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stottlemyer of Anderson.
