Elizabeth "Libby" Pounds Gillies Uncapher Carnahan, 91, of Indiana, Pa., formerly of Vandergrift, died Saturday (Nov. 30, 2002) in St. Andrew Village Nursing Home, Indiana, Pa.
Born Nov. 6, 1911, in Vandergrift, she lived in the borough for most of her life.
She graduated from Vandergrift High School, and Indiana Normal School, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Carnahan was a member of the Vandergrift Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Eastern Star, all in Vandergrift. She was a former Vandergrift High School Band Boosters supporter.
Surviviors include a son, William Gillies of Gibsonia; two daughters, Kay Dixon of Chatham, Mass., and Jane Orr of Pennington, N.J.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Grace Byers of Allegheny Township.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin Gillies; her second husband, Milton Uncapher Jr.; her third husband, Dr. Nelson Carnahan; her parents, Joseph and Catherine Klingensmith Pounds; five brothers, Harry, Robert, Theodore, John and Wendell Pounds; and a sister, Elener Swast.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in the Vandergrift Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. Arrangements are being handled by the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME, Vandergrift.
