Obituary for John Ulrich
The announcement of the death of this gentleman will be received with sorrow by all who knew him.
The sad event took place in the village of Parkville, St. Joe county, Mich., on the 26th ult. at the residence of his brother, to whom he had gone on a visit. He was prostrated by congestion of the brain on the 21st ult., and, after lingering a few days, breathed his last.
Mr. Ulrich was born in Chester county, Penn., on the 27th of June 1790, and died "full of honor and years," having attained the patriarchal age of eight-five years and three months. His father settled in Berks county in 1800, where he engaged in the paper making trade, in which branch of business he was joined by the deceased. In politics Mr. Ulrich was a Democrat. He was elected to the Legislature from Berks county in 1834-5-6, during the stormy anti-Masonic times, and made an able, consistent and honest Representative.
In 1851, he moved to Ohio and settled near Sidney, where he resided until 1871, when he sold his farm to John Wagner. He then went to Dinsmore with his son Cyrus.
Deceased was a member of the M.E. church, and by his example proved that he had a correct appreciation of the Christian doctrine it teaches and an abiding faith in a glorious resurrection. In the various relations of life which he sustained during his extended years, he conducted himself so as to win the respect and good will of those with whom he was brought in contact. His life may be said to be that of a truly good man, and he has now gone to receive his reward.
