Dorothy Tyree Alltizer Lusk, age 93, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Spring River Christian Village. Dorothy was born June 8, 1914 in Joplin, Mo., the daughter of Elmer and Gertrude Tyree Sr. Dorothy graduated from Joplin High School in 1932, and went to work at the Dime Store to help support her family during the depression.
Dorothy married Buddy Alltizer May 23, 1947 in Neosho, Mo. While married, they lived in the Lakeside Community where they opened a neighborhood grocery store. They moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1953. They were members of the Ashland Terrace Christian Church. They returned to Joplin in 1980. Buddy preceded her in death on June 5, 1980
She returned to Tennessee to friends Lee and Barbara Knox and helped them with their green house. While there she met Malcolm Lusk. They were married July 25, 1983 in Joplin.. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2001. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer Tyree Jr., Raymond Tyree, Roy Tyree, and Wilbur Tyree, and a step son, Bobby Lusk.
Dorothy's hobbies included quilting, and sewing. She attended the College Heights Christian Church.
Survivors include three step sons, Marion Lusk and wife Lois, League City, Texas, Keithly Lusk and wife Patsy, Fairland, Indiana, and Benny Lusk and wife Nancy, Manchester, Tennessee, one brother, Lawrence Tyree and wife Evelyn, Colorado Springs, Colorado, three sisters, Eva may Houghland and husband Kenneth, Denver Colorado, Katherine Manning, Gatlinburg, Maryland, and Edith Anderson and husband Gordon, Kissimmee, Florida, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and 14 nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mt. Hope Cemetery Open Air Chapel with Doug Lawson, Minister, officiating. A celebration memorial service will be held July 26, 2008 at the Red Wood Gardens Community Room during the Tyree family reunion. Memorial contributions are requested to the Spring River Christian Village in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
