TERRE HAUTE — Mildred Tyler Bell, or as many knew her, "Mick or Mickie", 92, slipped off to be with her Lord on March 16, 2012, at Union Hospital. Mick was born in Clay County on Feb. 11, 1920, to Robert and Eliza Shepard Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Willie, Letcher, Luther, Ted, Gale, Curnie and Melvin or "Tine" Mick's twin; five sisters, Kathryn Burrows, Elsie Sparks, Callie Yeager, Margaret Hartman and Lottie Spears. She also is preceded in death by a sister-in-law, also named Mildred Tyler of Casey, Ill., who died at 92 last December. She was a very big part of Mick's life and Mick would want her mentioned.

Mick moved back to Clay County and married for the first time her sweetheart of decades past, Chester Bell in 1991, and who died Nov. 21, 2003. Since his death she has resided in Terre Haute, and at the time of her death resided in an apartment at Westminster Village.

Mildred is survived by four dear stepchildren, Steven and wife Sherry Woll of Crawfordsville, Glenn and wife Janice Bell of White Lake, Mich., Lois Luedeman of Brazil, and Doris Smith of Indianapolis; two sisters-in-law, Vera Adams and Carol Tyler; and many, many beloved nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and who all kept in touch with her until the end with family photos, calls, cards and gifts.

Mildred graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1938, and then went on to receive her master's degree from Indiana State University in 1969, in Vocational Home Economics. She then went on and taught Home Economics and some Biological Science for five years in Parke County, two years in Pulaski County and ended her career of teaching after 32 years with the Bremen Public Schools in Marshall County. She touched hundreds of lives as an educator known as "Miss Tyler." Mildred also was a member for many years of the Northside Church of Christ in Terre Haute.

In 2010, Glenn and Janice Bell, along with Steven and Sherry Woll, planned for Mick the best 90th birthday celebration of her life. The party was attended by more than 100 friends and family, and she received more than 150 cards and letters. It was the highlight of her later life.

Mildred had traveled abroad, enjoyed traveling and just in the last few months talked and looked forward to taking another trip, "when the weather got nicer." On Friday the weather was nice and we know what trip she meant. She has taken the ultimate final flight, is now with her departed loved ones, and we who loved her, and are left behind will miss her.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m., and again on Thursday, March 22, 2012, from 9 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 10 a.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home. Pastor Abe Miller will officiate, with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Although cancer was not Mick's cause of death, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN. 46278, since Mildred Bell was a cancer survivor four times.
