Anchorage resident Ruth Eleanor Blatchford, 49, died of natural causes Aug. 2, 1999, at her home in south Mountain View. A brief visitation was held prior to her cremation. A memorial service was held Aug. 7 at Evergreen Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Evans of Bethel Chapel officiating. A wake was held at her daughter's home after the memorial service. Burial of her ashes took place Aug. 10 at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born July 15, 1950, in Fairbanks, Mrs. Blatchford was a lifelong Alaskan. Raised in Takotna, it was her home until she moved to Anchorage. She was self-employed as an ivory crafter, Native jeweler and artist, an occupation she greatly enjoyed. Aside from her work, she also took great joy in fishing and cooking for friends and family. She was a member of Bethel Chapel. Her family recalled: ''Ruth is remembered for her enormous heart. She had love for all and showed it through her kind deeds and generosity. Her memories will be cherished by all and her company dearly missed.''

Mrs. Blatchford is survived by her husband, Joe Dexter Blatchford of Anchorage; sons, Burton Hal Twitchell, Daniel Jason Martinez and Shawn Thomas Martinez, all of Anchorage; daughter, Monica Andrea Martinez of Anchorage; ex-husband, Kenneth Martinez of Anchorage; foster daughter, Stella Beaver of Anchorage; father, Timothy Twitchell of Palmer; brothers, Timothy Twitchell II of Washington and Mathew Twitchell of Montana; sisters Mary Twitchell, Lois Stover and Hannah Broussard of Kodiak, Ester Lurson and Racheal McCarthy of Washington, Rebecca Twitchell of Palmer and Eunise Pacheco of California. Arrangements were made by by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
