Mary Lee Armitage, 84, of Greeneville, died Thursday at her home.
Mrs. Armitage was a foster grandparent for several years at Doak School and at the Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville.
She was of the Baptist tradition of faith.
She had attended Lords Tabernacle for several years and more recently attended Sunnyside Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.
She was the widow of Herman Armitage and a daughter of the late Ed and Susie Tweed of Shelton Laurel, N.C.
Her family noted, "She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, and a very special aunt."
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Rebecca Jean and Jerry Ricker of Tusculum; a son: Robert Paul Armitage of Greeneville; a stepson and his wife: Grenville and Shirley Taylor of South Hampton, England; four special grandchildren: Jason Allen Ricker, Kelly Joseph Ricker, Brooke LaShae Ricker, and Megan Lea Brooks; a special great-granddaughter: Laney Mercae Ricker; a sister: Rita Jay Gilland of Bulls Gap; a sister-in-law: Ennis Jones of Knoxville; two brothers-in-law: Charlie Gilland of Greene County and Tyson Gilland of Kentucky; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a special friend: Walter Grimes.
She was preceded in death by four sisters: Tennie Gilland, Mildred Gray, Faye Jennings, and Minnie Tweed; and two brothers: Cleve Tweed and Ira Tweed.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Doughty-Stevens
Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Buster Shelton and the Rev. Mike Waddell will officiate.
Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jason Ricker, Kelly Ricker, Monte Kirkpatrick, Terry Kirkpatrick, Leonard Kirkpatrick, "Pee Wee" Tweed, and Bill Cutshall.
