Funeral services for former McMinnville resident Myrtle J. "Myrt" Crawford of Dallas will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors. The Rev. Jim Peterson will officiate. Private family interment will be conducted at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Mrs. Crawford died at Salem Hospital on Monday, May 7, 2007. She was 75.
Born in The Dalles on Aug. 18, 1931, she was the daughter of Orville Webster and Myrtle Hildegarde (Ohlegschlager) Turner. She grew up in The Dalles, graduating from high school there in 1949.
She married Howard Marvin Crawford on Dec. 21, 1978, in Goldendale, Wash. They resided in the Tygh Valley in northeastern Oregon until 1984, when they moved to McMinnville.
She and her husband owned Crawford's Corner Market in McMinnville from 1984 to 1994. She worked as a bookkeeper.
Her pastimes included knitting, crocheting, needlework, beadwork, crossword puzzles, reading, music and RV camping. She especially enjoyed decorating for the holidays and being with her family.
She was involved in Special Olympics, AARP and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
She moved to Dallas in 2004.
The family said, "While at Crawford's Corner, she made many friends and brightened many lives."
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Crawford is survived by four sons, Donnell "Tad" Dickey of McMinnville, Forrest "Paul" Crawford of Dallas, Howard "Glen" Crawford of Wamic and John "Jim" Dickey of Plentywood, Mont.; two daughters, Marlene Dickey of Orcas Island, Wash., and Diana "Kim" Bezona of Bellingham, Wash.; a brother , William Webster "Bill" Turner of The Dalles; a sister, Harriet Elaine Quierolo of Gresham; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Philip Clyde "Phil" Turner.
