Julia Evelyn Turner (1920 - 2011)
Julia Evelyn Turner, 90, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Arlington. Interment: Parkdale Cemetery.
Evelyn was born July 23, 1920, in Howard County near Big Spring. She graduated at the top of her class from Garner High School in 1939. That same year she married Hoyt C. Turner and moved to Galveston where Hoyt was with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Both her children were born in Galveston. In 1950, Hoyt was transferred to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and they bought a new home in Parkview in east Arlington. An expert cook, seamstress and homemaker, she baked many dozens of her famous cinnamon rolls for family and friends. Evelyn had been a member of First Baptist Church of Arlington since 1950. She was also a member of the Lydia Class during that time. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt C. Turner; son, Joe Alvie Turner; parents, Alvie and Myrtle Chapman; sister, Maurine Ringener; brothers, Ardis Chapman and Maurice Chapman; and nephews, Gary Ringener and Larry Ringener.
Survivors: Daughter, Janice White and husband, James, of Montrose, Ala.; grandson, Jules White and wife, Lisa, of Blacksburg, Va.; and brother, J.O. "Sonny" Chapman of Big Spring.
