Esther M. Thomas, 88, of Waterloo, Iowa passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012, at the Covenant Hospital in Waterloo.
Esther May Thomas was born on December 19, 1923, the daughter of Rolland E. and Sula Emaline (Poe) Turner in Shell Rock, Iowa. She attended country school in Butler County and graduated from Orange High School in Black Hawk County. On December 16, 1942, she was united in marriage to Wilbur D. Thomas at the Baptist Church in North Chicago, Illinois. Esther was employed at Ben Franklin, Health Food Stores for 20 years and then Friendship Village for 14 years.
She enjoyed sewing and nutrition.
Survivors are her two sons, Rod (Gail) Thomas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Dennis Thomas of Waterloo, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Arlene (Kenneth) Flickinger of Waterloo, Iowa, Donna Schock of Dundee, Iowa and Doris (Wayne) Fleshner of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jack Thomas, brother, Warren Turner and by a sister, Ardith Card.
Esther has been cremated and memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Unitarian Universalist Society in Cedar Falls with Pastor Eva Cameron officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford.
