Jenette (Janet) Turnbull was born May 11, 1786 in Selkirkshire, Scotland to Andrew and Helen Douglas Turnbull.

She married John Ballantyne June 3, 1808 in Selkirk, Selkirkshire Parish, Scotland (LDS film #102277) and they had 11 children in Scotland: Helen (Ellen), Thomas, Janet (Jennett (Jessie), Andrew, Mary, Margaret, Jane, William, James C., Robert and Sarah.

Her family joined the LDS church in Scotland and came to the U.S. in 1841 with a group of LDS members settling at Nauvoo, Illinois and later moving to Texas. (Full account is in husband's memorial).

The biography of Janet's son, Andrew, which was in the "History of Monona County, Iowa" published in 1890 states that his mother passed away April 26, 1870 in Bandera County, Texas but the location of the grave is unknown.

Information on Janet was taken from the biographies of her husband and sons Andrew and James that were in the above mentioned history of Monona county.
