Birth: Jul. 7, 1859
Covington County

Death: Feb. 11, 1944
Jefferson Davis County
Mississippi, USA

A dear old lady, frail as a flower, and gentle as the summer breeze, died last Friday as she had chose to live......quietly, gladly, and unafraid.

Mrs. Sara E. Broom, better known as "Aunt Cissy," though confined to her bed most of the time, fulfilled her obligation as a good citizen to the end of her life, and was keenly interested in local and national affairs unto the last. So frail that she had to be carried up and down stairs in a chair, she always came out to vote in matters for the welfare of her community, as well as in the regular elections. Aunt Cissy didn't use her infirmities as a means of evading her responsibilities in life, but used them, instead as stepping stones to a greater fulfillment.

Mrs. Broom was 84 years of age and was a lifelong resident of Jeff Davis county. She was Miss Sara Turnage prior to her marriage. She joined the Methodist Church in girlhood and has been a loyal and devout member since that time. She has made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. K. L. Winborn where everything possible was done for her comfort and happiness.

The funeral services were held from Mt. Zion Methodist Church Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with her former pastor, Rev. Roy Wolfe of McComb, officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery.

Immediate survivors are four children: Lester Broom, Columbia; Willard Broom, McComb; Mrs. Jimmie Waites, Montgomery, Ala.; and Mrs. K. L. Winborn, Prentiss. Several grandchildren also survive.
