Herman Eugene Tupa was the son of Frank and Anna Tupa. Herman was born on January 10, 1926 near Veseleyville, Walsh County, North Dakota. He attended school at Vesleyville through eighth grade. He entered the service and joined the Navy Seebies. He married Mary Anne Vanyo on October 21, 1947. They had 11 children: Robert, Dianne, Janice, Patrick, Francis, Bradley, Michael, Donald, Karen, James and Paul.
Herman worked at the Dacotah Hotel and then started an electrical contracting business: Thrall and Tupa. After Thrall retired it became Tupa Electric. Eventually Tupa Electric closed and Herman went to work for Dakota Electric
Supply in Grand Forks. Herman retired at age 62. He was an avid stamp collector, hunter and fisherman. Herman loved to travel and loved his Bohemian heritage.
