Ethel Maude Archer was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Arapahoe, to LeRoy and Sarah Hand Trunnell. Ethel lived north of Keystone and attended a one room school house until the eighth grade.
At that time she was needed to help with the farming. Later she was employed as a housekeeper for a ranch family.
She moved to the Ogallala area in 1940. There she met Andy Archer and they were married Dec. 11, 1941. Andy enlisted in the Army and was wounded during World War II in Italy. He was hospitalized in Denver for more than a year and Ethel spent almost every day at his side.
After his recovery they moved to Ogallala and entered into the family trucking business in 1945. Ethel served as the bookkeeper and financial manager of Archer & Archer of Julesburg and Archer Transfer of Ogallala.
After Andy's death in 1994, Ethel continued operating Archer Transfer with the help of long time friend and driver Bill Musick. Some of Ethel's enjoyments included playing pinochle, traveling, gardening and being with family and friends. She was a volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels. Highlights of her life were several trips with her family to Hawaii. She especially liked seeing the tropical flowers and the ocean.Preceding her in death were her husband; two daughters, Glenna Ann Archer in 1956 and Tammie Archer Coyle in 1984; one brother, Charlie Trunnell; and two sisters, Florence Jones and Edith Trunnell.
Survivors include one daughter, Elma and her husband Dennis Means; one granddaughter Kimberly Maxey, all of Lakewood, Colo.; three sisters, Mildred Jones of Broken Bow, Eva Perrin of Lincoln, and Pearl and her husband Francis Gidmond of Grand Island; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
