Married Phoebe Ann Findley about 1863, probably in Louisiana. Enlisted 16 March 1862, Monroe, Louisiana to serve the C.S.A., as a Private and 3 Corporal in Co. I, 31st Regiment, Louisiana Infantry. He had dark eyes, blond hair, and a dark complexion, and was 5 feet, 7 inches tall at the time of enlistment. Benjamin moved his family to Lamar Co., Texas in the 1870's, and the family lived in the Crossroads Community. The Tugwell home was a two story house.
