Charles Tucker was born on December 9, 1832, in Connecticut, and according to the 1860 census for Haddam, Middlesex, CT, his occupation, Caulker, (named spelled Tooker) and according to the 1870 census for Chester, Middlesex, CT where he, wife Amanda, and children Rosena, Isabella, Charles and Melissa made their home, again occupation Caulker (filled up cracks in ships, casks, windows or seams to make them watertight by using tar or oakum hemp fibre produced by taking old ropes apart). Charles was also described as a carpenter, of Chester, CT, on his draft registration during the Civil War in 1863.
