Alyene White passed away on March 9, 2013, Funeral
On March 9, 2013, Alta Alyene Tubbs White passed peacefully, from this life into the splendor of God's heaven.
She was 88 years old. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clifford and Alta Tubbs and her sister, Ramelle Tubbs Douglass.
Alyene was born on January 30, 1925 in Parsons, Tennessee but was raised in Memphis and graduated from her beloved Treadwell High School in 1943.
She married her high school sweetheart, Lester Forrest White in 1948.
She worked at the University of Memphis (then Memphis State) for many years as an administrative assistant to the Medical Director for Health Services. In the latter years, she was the administrative assistant to the head of the department of Electrical Engineering. She was a long time member of Eudora Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served on various committees. Alyene was a master seamstress and loved to knit and crochet.
Because Forrest graduated from the University of Tennessee, she was an avid Volunteer fan. While she and Forrest enjoyed their travels to all parts of the world, her favorite destination was always Memphis. From the river to the Rendezvous, there was no place like home. She loved her husband, adored her sons and delighted in her grandchildren.
Alyene is survived by her husband of 64 years, Forrest White, two sons, Barry F. White and wife, Dr. Jan Garrison of Memphis and Warren C. White and wife, Vickie of Houston, Tx. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Rebecca White Waite and husband, Ryan of South Windsor, Ct, Taylor White and wife, Whitney of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Carrie White Zwerneman and husband, John of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by a niece, Barbara Douglass Thomas and husband,Steve of Argyle, Tx and a nephew, Marty Hill and wife, Jan of Greensboro, N.C.
She leaves one cousin, Helen Cannon and a cousin-in-law, Peggy West, both of Memphis.
A visitation will be held from 1-3 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home 5668 Poplar Avenue on March 23, 2013 with a graveside service immediately following in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Page Robbins Adult Day Care Center - Memphis www.pagerobbins.org/ or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital and Dr. Joseph Allen, Dr. Ray Allen and Dr. John Morris for their expertise, guidance and caring during Mom's last days
