SANTA ROSA, Calif. - The funeral for Alice Lou Archer, 74, will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 2, in Eggen and Lance Mortuary of Santa Rosa. Interment will follow in Santa Rosa Memorial Park. She died Jan. 27, 2006, in Evanston.

Born Feb. 23, 1931, in Globe, Ariz., she was the second of seven children of Ellen and Dewey C. Tubbs. The family moved to Sonoma, Calif., in 1940 and she was raised and educated there.

At age 17, she met Virgil W. Archer; they started going steady on June 5, 1948. On Easter Sunday 1949, they joined Grace Reformed Church together; and, on Oct. 1, 1950, were married there. The family lived in El Verano, Calif., until 1960, when they moved to Sonoma. She and her husband raised their family there and remained together in their home until his death in December 2001, after 51 years of marriage.

She had a special place in her heart for children and, as a young woman, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at Grace Reformed Church. She also helped at Sonoma Valley Nursery School from 1963 until her retirement in 1985. She was "a good Christian woman who knew the power of prayer" and bravely endured her own health problems while praying for others less fortunate.

After her husband's death, her one true joy in life was her 98 year old mother, who she tried to talk with on a daily basis.

Survivors include her mother of Sonoma; four brothers and their wives, Dewey Tubbs of Twin Falls, Idaho, Charles Tubbs of Arcadia, Calif., Jabe Tubbs of Napa, Calif., and Steven Tubbs of Eustis, Fla.; sister, Elizabeth Small of Napa; three sons, Reginald Archer and his wife of Chula Vista, Calif., Michael Archer and his wife of Evanston and Edward Archer of Sonoma; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and older sister, Marjorie.
