Betty TUBB, of Macon lost her battle with lung cancer at Riley Memorial Hospital in Meridian, MS. Betty worked for the Meridian Star for several years, as both a lifestyle editor and assistant editor of the people section. She won many awards from Missisippi Press Women's Association and authored her own music column called "Jam". Some of her renowned interviews include Merle HAGGARD, Willie NELSON & Waylon JENNINGS. During this time, Betty was asked to contribute her writing style to one of the famous folk rocker Bob DYLAN's promotional tour books, and also to serve on the executive board of the Jimmie RODGERS Music Festival. After retiring from the Star and relocating to Shuqualak, MS, Betty contributed much to Noxubee County as a substitute teacher, volunteer, and dedicated worker at Elderly Care Center of Macon. She was also a member of the Junior Auxiliary of Macon, which donated both time and money to philanthropies around Noxubee County. Betty is survived by her daughter, Laura Tubb, her fiance`, Fred Zephier, and her mother, Betty Coffey. A memorial visitation will be held in Betty's honor on Saturday, October 27, 2007, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at the Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon.
