City Contractor Dies in Macada Road Crash
A Bethlehem contractor was killed yesterday afternoon when his truck hit the abutment of the Macada Road bridge over the Monocacy Creek.
Anthony Trunzo, 61, of 1280 Stark Road, Hanover Township, Northampton County, was pronounced dead at Muhlenberg Hospital Center at 2:06 p.m.
Trunzo was president of A.J. Trunzo Inc., a concrete construction company on Butztown Road.
Police said the company truck was traveling east along Macada Road at 1:25 p.m. when it veered to the right. It struck the metal abutment head-on, crushing the front end of the truck.
It was raining at the time.
Rescue workers with the Hanover Fire Company cut the roof off the truck to free Trunzo.
The Hecktown Ambulance assisted state police from the Bethlehem barracks.
Trunzo was the husband of Eleanor A. (Gallone) Trunzo. They were married 38 years in April.
Trunzo owned and operated A.J. Trunzo Inc. for the past 10 years. Before that, he was a division manager for Texaco Corp.
He graduated from Villanova University in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in economics.
Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Samuel and Amelia (Renda) Trunzo.
He was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors also include sons, Paul of Wind Gap and Steven and Anthony, both of Bethlehem; brothers, Nicholas of Waukesha, Wis., and Samuel of Medford, N.J., and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Downing Funeral Home, 1002 W. Broad St., Bethlehem; Mass at 10 a.m. in the church. Call 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
