Frank A. Trunzo, 88, of Washington Township, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. Born July 31, 1925, in Mifflin Township, Allegheny County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Giovannina (Cimbalo) Trunzo. Frank lived in Washington Township for the past 37 years. He and his wife started their own business, Trunzo's Dairy and Recreation Center, which they ran for 46 years, until his retirement in 2004. A World War II veteran, Frank served with the Navy. He was a survivor of the Invasion of Mindoro, Dec. 15, 1944, where the LST 738 was bombed and sunk by a Kamikaze plane. He also participated in the Invasion of Leyte. He was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, the VFW Post No. 566 of Vandergrift and the DAV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise (Trunzo) Bisaha. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Velma M. (Kovacs) Trunzo, of Washington Township; son, Carl A. Trunzo, of Hamilton, Mont.; two daughters, Terrie L. Burgener, of Reno, Nev., and Carolyn R. (Tom) Kane, of Penn Hills; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nino (Sadie) Trunzo, of Leechburg, and twin brother, Joseph (Dolly) Trunzo, of Margate, Fla.; three sisters, Phyllis Baranak, of Boca Raton, Fla., Jean Maradei, of Vandergrift, and Edith Detman, of Allegheny Township; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, in the BRADY-CURRAN FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES INC., 429 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift, with Father James Loew, OSB, officiating. Entombment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, where full military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
