Regina Manci of Scranton died Thursday evening at Geisinger Community Medical
Center surrounded by her family. Regina and her husband, Louis Manci, celebrated
their 67th wedding anniversary on April 2 of this year.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Rose Polito
Trunzo. She attended North Scranton Junior High School and was a member of St.
Peter's Cathedral in Scranton. Throughout her life, she was very active in local
politics, especially for the Gene Peters Mayoral Campaign. In addition to being
active in the family business and being a homemaker, Ree was an active volunteer
with the American Heart Association.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and
friend. A generous woman throughout her life, she would open up her home and her
heart to anyone in need. She enjoyed pinochle, playing cards with her
grandchildren and Sunday dinners with her family. She was an avid New York
Yankees and Denver Broncos fan.
Also surviving are her son, Joseph Manci and his wife, Linda, Dalton; two
daughters, Antoinette Szczepaniak of Scranton;and Rosemary Stevens Winchester,
TN.; four grandchildren, Pamela Szczepaniak, Christopher Manci and his wife,
Stacie; Michael Manci and his wife, Dina; and Joseph Manci Jr.; four
great-grandchildren, Jacob, Parker, Megan and Fiona; four sisters, Tomasina
Abballe and her husband, Angelo; Esther Linko, Yolanda Argenta and Ann Davitt,
all of Scranton; in addition, many loved nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, John Szczepaniak; three
brothers, Peter, James and Serafino Trunzo; and three sisters, Mary Nerges, Rose
Vacchino and Christine Burke.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Peter's
Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Ave., Scranton. Mass will be celebrated by the Rev.
Philip A. Altavilla, pastor. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery,
