OBITURY- PAPER JULY 7, 1922 PAGE 6. MARY C. BAIRD
Mary Catherine Truman was born in Clark County, Ohio on January 25, 1842 to Hannah Minser and Martin Lewis Truman. Mary Catherine died at the home of her son, Harry Burris Baird, in Mooreland, Oklahoma, June 25, 1922; age 89 years, 5 months.
Her father and mother were both devout Christians and member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Her father was an exhorter in the church and the fine influence of these people have wielded a mighty power for good in her life.
She was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at the age of 8 years, and live a devoted and consistent Christian life in all these four score years.
In the early years of her life she was a school teacher, beginning her work of teaching at the age of 16. She taught two terms in Clark County, Ohio, and two terms in Champaign County, Illinois. She was married to Joseph Baird of Champaign County, Illinois at the age of 20, and to the union were born eight children--four sons and four daughters. The first child was a daughter born in February 18, 1863 and died 1863 in Illinois; the second child, Harry Burris was born March 7, 1864 in Illinois and died December 28, 1953 in Oklahoma; the third child Charles Truman was on July 29, 1865 in Illinois (don't have his death date or place); the fourth child Martin Tobias was born March 28, 1867 in Illinois and died March 24, 1888 in Colorado; the fifth child George Albert born March 4, 1870 in Illinois and died January 29, 1899 in Oklahoma; the sixth child Sarah Hannah born April 21, 1872 in Illinois (don't have her death date or place); the seventh child Iva May born May 6, 1875 in Kansas and died February 5, 1969 in Kansas; the eighth child Mary Myrtle born October 1, 1880 in Kansas died January 11, 1968 in Oklahoma. She was preceded in by her husband and five children.
Surviving her are one son, Harry Burris Baird, and two daughters, Mrs. M. W. Yonally (Iva May) and Mrs I. G. Wolf (Mary Myrtle), to mourn her loss, but our loss is heaven's gain. She has crossed over to be with her Lord and is at rest.
She was, in all of life, true and faithful. She had many friends and loved them, could be depended upon in time of need--she was a friend indeed. She proved herself a good wife, mother and neighbor Christian, a real blessing to her home and community. She loved her Saviour and His church and was one of earth's purest saints. She met and fought the battle of life like a good soldier of the cross.
She was at all times a friend to her pastor and her home was always open to the minister of Christ. At church services she worshiped her Saviour and waited upon ministry of the Word with unbounded faith and confidence.
Her last illness of seven weeks resulted in her death. She knew the end was near and expressed her desired to go. Our mother, sister and friend has fallen asleep in the arms of Jesus. She had lived a sweet, peaceful life and died a calm and triumphant death in the Lord.
Funeral services were conducted at the First Methdist Episcopal Church of Moorland by her pastor, Rev. Clint F. Stewart, assisted by Rev. H. G. Carson and Rev. A. L. Garrett. She was laid to rest in Quinlan Cemetery by the side of her husband who preceded her some fifteen years ago.
