Nickie M. Blake of Aztec, NM, died peacefully at home, on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimer's and cancer. Nickie was born in 1924, in Puertocito, N.M., to Pablo and Josephine Trujillo.
She graduated from Clayton High School with the Class of 1942, and went on to work in Washington, D.C. Nickie lived in Clayton, Santa Fe, and Española, before moving to Aztec in 1993. Nickie was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Aztec.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Blake; her first, husband John Gonzales: infant daughter; Mary; son-in-law, Michael DeField; infant great-grandson Michael Sandoval; and sister, Christine Giron.
She is survived by daughters, Bernadette (Jerry) Romero, Karen (John) Romero, Roberta DeField, Loretta (Michael) Haley; grandchildren, Jeff Gonzales (Rebecca), Andrea Sandoval (Richard), Crystal DeField (Scott), Aspen DeField, Ryan DeField, Scott Haley; great-grandchildren, Bryana Trejo, Sofia Sandoval; brothers, Gene Trujillo, Pablo "Buddy" (Pat) Trujillo, Ted (Neva) Trujillo, John (Linda) Trujillo; sisters, Caroline (Tiny) Bullard, Pauline (Gary) Hass, Anna Marie (Jerry) Rhoads, Sally (Steve) Dwyer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. today, Feb. 28, at Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 405 S. Main Ave.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 500 N. Mesa Verde Ave. in Aztec.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington.
Pallbearers are her six grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers are Rebecca Gonzales, Richard Sandoval, Scott Houston, her great-nephew and great-niece, Glenn and Genevieve Giron and very special friend, Michael Booten.
