Mrs. Irene True Axtell, daughter of Col. J. F. True, and wife of Dr. Myron Axtell, died at her home near Dimmitt, Texas, February 23rd, 1909, after a short illness. Both Mrs. Axtell and her husband were graduates of Washburn college, members of the student volunteer band and of Westminster Presbyterian church. She completed her college course with the class of 1896, and for a time after her graduation was Kansas State Y. W. C. A. secretary. After her marriage, she and her husband went to Africa in missionary work under appointment buy the Presbyterian church. Within a few weeks after landing in Africa Mrs. Axtell's health failed, and they returned to Kansas, settling at Irving, in Marshall county. They removed to Texas in the spring of 1908. Mrs. Axtell has always been active in Christian work, and will be sadly missed by her friends here and in the community where she lived. She leaves her husband and five children, the youngest an infant, her father, Col. J. F. True, two sisters, Dr. Mabell and Ella True, of Topeka, one brother, J. Fred Ture, of Newman, Kansas, and an aunt, Miss Theresa McAllister, a member of Col. True's family. Her sister, Dr. True, was with her at the time of her death.
