The migration of this family was from SC to AL (several children born there) to Independence, Washington Co, TX, by Aug 1839. In Bell Co, TX, by 1850. According to the Republic of TX poll lists for 1846, Thomas is still in Washington Co at the time. Possibly this family spent time in some of the states between SC and AL.

NOTE: The TRIMMIERs were in Pickens Co, and the MIDDLBEROOKs were in Greene Co in the 1830s, two AL counties next to each other.

Thomas S. and his wife, Martha (GREENWOOD) TRIMMIER, were two of the founding members of the Baptist Church, organized at Independence, TX, Sept. 1839. They had letters present and entered the church at organization. Thomas was the first clerk. (1, 10)

Thomas S. TRIMMIER was a private and 1st Sgt in Capt. Sam BOGART's Co., 1st Regt. of the Southwestern Army of the Republic of Texas. He went on the Somerville and Vasquez expeditions. (12) He was appointed as a land commissioner for 12 days to look for fraudulent land certificates in Washington Co. from 24 Feb to 9 Mar, 1840. (11) In Bell Co., TX, he was a County Commissioner in 1854, a presiding officer for an election in 1850, and a "reviewer" of roads.

He was on the 1840 Washington Co., TX, taxpayer list along with a Beverly GREENWOOD. (7) He was entitled to 640 acres of land, Headright Certificate 303, issued 12 Dec, 1839, by Washington Co. commissioners. But he seems not to have settled on any land until Milam Co. (later Bell Co.) The land was surveyed in 1850. (9) Also, in 1850, his house was designated as the polling place for Beat 2.

Martha and Thomas's son, William, was killed in a battle with Kickapoo Indians while with a surveying party in what is now Navarro Co. The place is called Battle Creek and has a monument. (8)

In the 1850 census there is a SEMONS or LEMONS with this family. No relationship stated. (see SEMONS in index)
