AUTO ACCIDENT IS FATAL
MRS. BESSIE TRAVIS DIES AT OAKRIDGE
Steering Gear of Car Driven by Her Husband Breaks and She Is Thrown Out
Mrs. Bessie Travis, 16, died at Oakridge last night a few hours after she had been injured in an automobile accident a short distance above that place about 7:30 o'clock in the evening. The body will be brought here this afternoon for interment in the Laurel Hill cemetery. The Veatch chapel has charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Travis and her husband were driving on the road when, according to Mr. Travis, the steering gear broke and the car plunged down an embankment. Mrs. Travis was thrown out of the car and her chest was crushed on a pile of ties on the railroad right of way. She was taken to Oakridge and a physician was called but nothing could be done to save her life, according to report from there.
Besides her husband Mrs. Travis is survived by Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Clark of Oakridge and five brothers.

LOSES LIFE IN AUTO WRECK
Mrs. Travis Dies From Injuries Inflicted
Car Goes Off Grade Piles Up in Ditch
What proved a fatal accident occurred Friday evening when Mr. and Mrs. Travis were returning home from town about 7 o'clock. When not far past the Davis & Webber dock the steering gear of the car in which they were riding broke, causing the car to swerve, go off the grade and pile up in the ditch near the railroad track. Besides a severe shaking up Mr. Travis was apparently unhurt, but Mrs. Travis was seriously injured. On being brought to town by a passing motorist and take to Dr. Wilson's office, everything possible was done for her relief, in which Dr. Peat, dentist lent a helping hand, she succumbed to her injuries about 8 o'clock. A crushed chest and lung punctured by a broken rib was more than she could withstand. She was aged about 20 years. Interment was in Laurel hill cemetery.
