Minnie was first married on 8 May 1884 to George W Ryan.

In July of 1899, the Minnie, George and their 7 children: Stella, George, Bernie, Laura (who died at age 13), William, Ellen and Elmer; went to visit some of Minnie's relatives in OK. George died out there. On Minnie's way home she ran out of money in St. Louis, MO and the Red Cross helped get her and the children back to IL.

Shortly after returning she married a widower, Wm. Henry Simpson on 22 Oct 1899 (they later divorced). When they married Minnie took her son Bernie to the children's home (he was later adopted and ended up in MN) and Wm. Henry dropped off two of his children, Seymour and Bryan at the children's home. We don't know why they choose these children or why they did it in the first place.

Minnie and Wm. Henry had 6 children together: Gertrude, Roy, Cora, Bertha (who was hit and killed by a car when she was 9 while running across the road to get a ball), Carrie and Henry.
