HOPE W. BARTER, 86, of Log Road, a retired insurance-policy writer, died yesterday at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence.
She had lived in Smithfield for 20 years, previously residing in North Providence,
Mrs. Barter had been a policy writer for Allendale Life Insurance for 15 years, retiring in 1979. Before that, she worked for the former Mine Safety Appliances, Esmond.
She was a member and past matron of the former Betsy Williams Chapter 20, Order of Easter Star, now part of OES Signet Chapter 21. She was a past grand matron of the Eastern Star of Rhode Island.
She was a member of the Glocester Country Club.
She leaves a son, Richard V. Barter Jr. of Smithfield; a daughter, Sandra Cornell of Pembroke, Mass.; a brother, Philip Trainor of Calias; and four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Elliott M. Robbins Chapel, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
