Mary E. Burton, 68, 2800 Mock Ave., wife of Elmer W. Burton, died Monday morning at Ball Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Blackford County, spent her early years there and came to Muncie with her parents, Wilson and Rose Bush Townsend, about 50 years ago.
Mrs. Burton was formerly employed at Ball Corporation and Gibson's arena. She was a member of Industry United Methodist Church.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Juanita) Foster, Muncie, and Mrs. John (Jacqueline) Lappin, Eaton; four sisters, Mrs. Earl (Lea) Smith, Pierceton, Mrs. Frank (Nellie) Dowd, Midway, Ohio, Mrs. Charles (Alberta) Thesing, Muncie, and Mrs. Guy (Fleta) Medsker, California; her brother, Keither Townsend, Muncie; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Meeks Mortuary with Rev. Roy Lee officiating. Burial will be in Elm Ridge. Friends may call at the mortuary from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
